Tract #03 - Colonization, debt to be honored, let France compensate Brittany!

Colonization is a dark page in history, marked by the exploitation, oppression and dispossession of many peoples around the world. Brittany, a land once independent and proud of its culture, was not spared by this troubled period. From the suppression of its autonomy to the crushing of its language and culture, Brittany paid a heavy price to French colonization. Today, it is time to recognize this historical debt and to compensate Brittany for the wounds inflicted.

 

Over the centuries, Brittany has been the victim of multiple waves of colonization. Among them, France, which imposed its authority and restricted Breton autonomy. The iconic Joan of Arc, symbol of Breton resistance against French excesses, embodies the fight against colonial oppression.

Let us also take the case of Tanguy du Châtel, an emblematic figure of medieval Brittany. His courage and his commitment to the defense of Breton rights and identity were harshly repressed by a France that sought to standardize its territories.

 

One of the most tragic consequences of colonization in Brittany was the repression and marginalization of the Breton language. Bans, humiliations and discrimination led to a devaluation of identity and a profound cultural weakening for the Bretons. Today, many efforts are being made to revive this ancient language, but compensation would be an essential step in repairing the damage caused by French colonial policy.

 

France, as the heir to this colonial period, has a moral duty to assume its responsibility and repair the injustices inflicted on Brittany. Compensation is not limited to a simple symbolic recognition, but constitutes a real recognition of the suffering and harm inflicted.

By acknowledging the historical debt to Brittany and compensating its colonial past, France would send a strong message of reconciliation and respect for oppressed peoples. This approach would also promote the construction of a more egalitarian and inclusive society, where each region would be respected in its diversity and autonomy.

 

Colonization has left deep scars in the history of Brittany, and it is time for France to take responsibility for this region. Compensating for the colonization of Brittany is not just an act of justice, it is an essential step in reconciling peoples and building a harmonious future. Brittany deserves to be recognized, valued and supported in its quest for reparation and preservation of its cultural identity.
