Woke pride

Woke pride: a concept that has caused a lot of ink to flow, arousing both admiration and suspicion. For some, being woke is synonymous with a social and political awareness that is essential in a society marked by inequalities and discrimination. For others, woke is seen as a passing fad, a superficial phenomenon without real depth. Still others, wokophobes are gripped by moral panic.

Woke pride goes far beyond a simple label, a claim. It embodies a real change in mentality, a real fight for social justice. Being woke is above all being aware of the injustices and oppressions that persist in our world, whether it be racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or even ableism.

Woke pride also involves questioning our own privileges, recognizing the advantages we may have as white, male, cisgender, heterosexual, able-bodied people. It’s also about admitting our past mistakes, our unwitting complicity with discriminatory and oppressive systems.

Being woke therefore means adopting a critical stance towards the society in which we evolve, refusing discriminatory speeches and behaviors, questioning established norms and values. Woke pride is a call to action, to commitment, to solidarity. It means refusing to remain passive in the face of injustices, to remain silent in the face of discrimination, to comply with dominant norms.

Some critics of woke pride accuse it of being excessive, of dividing rather than uniting, of stigmatizing instead of including. It is true that the radical nature of woke discourse can sometimes be perceived as intimidating or accusatory. However, it is important to remember that the fight for social justice necessarily involves taking strong positions, fearless confrontations and radical questioning.

Woke pride is also a call for autonomy, emancipation, and speaking out. It is daring to assert one's convictions, identities, and differences, without fearing the judgment of others. It is asserting oneself in one's singularity, claiming one's place in a society that is often normative and exclusionary.

Woke pride is also a form of resilience, of combativeness. It is refusing to let yourself be defeated by obstacles, to give in to fear or discouragement. It is believing in your ability to move the lines, to create spaces of solidarity and social revolution.

Finally, woke pride is a call for solidarity, for intersectionality, for the recognition of multiple and interconnected struggles. It is understanding that injustices are intertwined, that oppressions reinforce each other, and that the fight against discrimination must be carried out in an intersectional and inclusive manner.

Ultimately, woke pride is much more than a simple label or a passing trend, as wokophobes would have us believe. It is a real social movement, an intellectual and political revolution in progress. It is a call for conscience, responsibility, and solidarity. Let us be proud to be woke, proud of our fight for a fairer, more equal, more inclusive world.

The Forbidden Book: Ferghane Azihari Against Islam

Ferghane Azihari's latest essay offers a critique of Islam, which he portrays as inherently hostile to modernity, freedom, and progress. Despite its publishing success, Vincent Tournier has noted a silence or reluctance in the media to discuss these ideas.
