Founded in 2012 at the initiative of the CNRS Institute of Human and Social Sciences, the Gender Institute is a Scientific Interest Group (GIS) that brings together around thirty institutional partners engaged in research on gender and sexualities. Dedicated to the coordination, scientific reception and promotion of this work in France and internationally, the Gender Institute is hosted by the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme Paris Nord at the Condorcet Campus in Aubervilliers. Since 2012, the Gender Institute has been working to:
· contribute to the scientific recognition and geographical extension of research on gender and sexualities in France · resolutely support young research through a set of targeted mechanisms · give, through various support actions, international visibility to research carried out in French in this field · promote the emergence of new forms of scientific collaboration, in the French academic world and with international partners · encourage and promote interdisciplinary or transversal research with multiple scopes and circumferences, within the SHS but also between the SHS and other scientific fields.

ARPEGE (Multidisciplinary Approaches to Gender) has been a collaborative research structure since 2021. With an interdisciplinary aim, it brings together 25 laboratories or research teams and nearly 150 members from different university establishments in the Toulouse region. The SCR ARPEGE is part of a scientific dynamic that is both local and international with initiatives such as a Labex SMS operation "Gender and Social Structuring", an interdisciplinary master's network, annual seminars, an EFiGiES group of doctoral students, as well as the organization of national and international scientific events.
The research conducted within the framework of the SCR ARPEGE is structured around analyses of feminist movements, equality policies, discrimination and inequalities, gender violence, body politics, sexualities, and intersectionality. The thematic structure of the SCR ARPEGE includes four main and non-exclusive axes, focused on the issues of Gender, Science and Health (Axis 1), Gender Policies (Axis 2), Feminisms, Commitments and Representations (Axis 3) and LGBTQI+ Studies (Axis 4).
