Gender and subjectivity: epistemological and didactic issues

Tuesday March 7, 2023, 14 p.m. - 17 p.m.

Sorbonne, Hall of Acts – 54 rue Saint-Jacques 75005 Paris

How can the share of subjectivity necessarily involved in research in literature and human sciences constitute not an insurmountable limit, but a resource to be explored? What are the stakes of this question for the study and teaching of medieval literature from a gender perspective?

The network LIMA.GE was born from a common desire to give greater visibility to gender studies in medieval literature in the French-speaking field. We wish, through this network, to develop a theoretical reflection on the ways in which the notions that have emerged over the last twenty years in the sociology of gender (intersectionality, agency and concepts from queer or in care studies) can be adapted or reworked for ancient literature.

After the first network meeting LIMA.GE, devoted to anachronism, we will continue our collective reflection by focusing on the articulations between gender and subjectivity. We will first present the epistemological issues of the question in a broad perspective, open to different disciplines of the Human Sciences, before showing what it can bring on the pedagogical and didactic levels. In each of these two parts, we will develop some practical examples, drawn from our experiences as teacher-researchers in medieval literature.

Key speakers:

Sophie Albert, Sorbonne University, MCF of medieval literature

Fabienne Pomel, University of Rennes 2, Professor of medieval language and literature

Discussants:

Rose Delestre, doctoral students at the Universities of Geneva and Rennes 2

Sarah Delale, research officer at the Institute of Civilizations, Arts and Letters (INCA) of the Catholic University of Louvain

Yasmina Foehr-Janssens, Full Professor of French Medieval Literature, University of Geneva

Anne Paupert, MCF in medieval language and literature, Paris Cité University

No registration to attend the event in person. Anyone wishing to attend this meeting remotely can write to us at reseaulima.ge@gmail.com
