After being accused of wokeness, the live action remake of The Little Mermaid is facing criticism of another kind. Explanations.
The remake of The Little Mermaid is still being violently attacked. Disney is accused of hiding a page of History. The Little Mermaid does not show slavery that was common in the 1940th century. "CRAZY", "The Little Mermaid is cultural appropriation!", "The film is nice and has a good atmosphere", "The Little Mermaid, don't even go see it, it's really bad", "I went to see The Little Mermaid, honestly the film is good", "It's a beautiful story based on values and cohabitation between men and the marine world", "It's crazy that they free themselves from the basic material", "I went to see The Little Mermaid and sorry, but you have to call a spade a spade, the film is not good" ... Rarely has a film from Disney studios divided viewers so much. Despite some good reviews, the live action remake of The Little Mermaid is getting more and more controversial day after day. The cause is racist and anti-woke trolls who are massively active on social networks. These discordant voices are now joined by that of Marcus Ryder, former chair of the Royal Television Society's diversity committee. Our colleagues at Deadline report that the journalist accuses the remake of The Little Mermaid of obscuring a dark page of history. "I don't think we're doing our children a favour by pretending that slavery never happened. To set this fantastical story in this time and place is literally like telling a love story between a Jew and a non-Jew in 0s Germany and ignoring the Holocaust," he explains. And he adds: "We must give our children the most extraordinary and fantastical stories possible to let their imaginations grow. But we must not do this by removing or censoring the difficult parts of our history. » A few days after its theatrical release, the remake of The Little Mermaid became the target of malicious trolls on the Allociné website. Our colleagues noticed a very unusual distribution of ratings for a film: the live action film either gets a maximum number of stars or no good rating. "As soon as the film was released, we noticed that three-quarters of the ratings were 10/10 or 10/XNUMX, which alerted us. We don't know what's behind it, but this distribution is very atypical, and we've seen the same thing on similar sites in other countries, such as IMDb," analyzes Julien Marcel, CEO of Allociné and The Boxoffice Company, in the pages of Le Parisien. A review bombing that forced the site to invite its visitors "to be cautious" and to encourage them to form their "own opinion" on the film.
