Niort: Transactivists prevent Aude Mirkovic from providing information on gender issues among young people

Read more  Freedom of expression once again hindered yesterday Thursday June 1, 2023 in Niort by those who claim to defend ... the freedom of each person
Yesterday, Thursday June 1st, in Niort, Aude Mirkovic, spokesperson for Juristes pour l'enfance, was prevented from giving the conference on the theme of "Gender issues among children and adolescents" organized by the AFC du Niortais.
Trans activists gathered inside and outside the municipal hall rented by the association with the sole aim of preventing the speaker from speaking. Preferring insults and shouting to the debate of ideas, they imposed their censorship.
Initially gathering in a noisy and hostile manner in front of the room, they thus caused several people to flee who wanted to attend the conference but were discouraged by the threat of the hostility displayed.
They then proceeded to insult and shout at people who had nevertheless entered the conference room for an hour.
The organizers tried to give the floor to Aude Mirkovic. She welcomed everyone present and asked them to listen to the conference, specifying that they could ask questions and engage in a debate after the presentation. This suggestion was immediately followed by a wave of shouts and noise organized by banging on tables, whistling, etc.
Since this deafening noise made it impossible to speak, Aude Mirkovic asked the troublemakers in vain to respect this fundamental freedom that is freedom of expression. Half an hour later, the organizers, noting the impossibility of making themselves heard, decided to close the room.
Those who wanted to hear the conference and the speaker were thus subjected to an hour of insults and shouts by an excited and threatening crowd, who came in large numbers with the stated intention of preventing the conference from taking place. Unable to give the announced conference, Aude Mirkovic explains:
Many children and adolescents today express deep unease and believe that gender transition offers the promise of a happier life.
Our responsibility as adults is to support these young people in seeking the causes of their difficulties with a view to remedying them. Indeed, many of them have real difficulties that need to be addressed, in particular: post-traumatic stress disorder, autism, psychiatric disorders, various psychological difficulties that may be at the root of their discomfort.
Engaging them in a process of social and/or medical transition may provide relief for a while, but often does not provide a remedy for their real problems.
Medical transition for minors is the subject of increasing controversy in a large number of countries: the balance of benefits and risks is not favourable and the capacity of children to consent to the proposed acts is strongly contested.
It is noted that young adults, in increasing numbers, regret the transition that they nevertheless demanded during their childhood or adolescence.
These young "detransitioners" remind us of our responsibility as adults: we cannot shirk our responsibilities behind the pseudo consent of the minor, which is legally non-existent due to the protective status of the minority which is that of children.
Many young people could be spared much suffering and regret if they were supported with the aim of reconciling with their bodies by addressing their deep-seated difficulties.
Children, parents, teachers and educators have the right to know that the trans-affirmative approach is not the only possibility, and that there is an alternative approach, called prudent, which favours psychotherapeutic support and comprehensive care of the child.
This latter cautious approach is favoured today by several pioneering states in this area which are abandoning not only medical (Finland, Sweden) but also social (new guidelines announced by the NHS in England) transition for minors.
In France, this priority given to psychotherapeutic support is recommended by an increasing number of professionals and by the Academy of Medicine.
